Snorkeling Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa

The first thing one notices when they venture outside Zihuatanejo Bay, especially this time of year, is the lush tropical forest that proliferates the coastline.  There is and has been luxury real estate development but these installations are nestled in a sea of green that has left most of this unique ecological zone intact.  And for recreational, diving, snorkeling, and conservation purposes this is a wonderful and unique aspect of this part of the world.

The life within these waters of the numerous bays along the coast is plentiful and healthy.  This means that for snorkeling enthusiasts these dive sites are a treasure.  As we approach the prime season for ocean activities during the winter months, the conditions to see a very complete panoply of sea life is possible.  Even from an economic standpoint, the benefits of preserving this treasure is infinitely greater than the short term monetary gains of development.  I hope through the continued support of local dive shops via snorkeling and diving trips, the diversity of abundant marine life in this part of Mexico can be sustained and perpetuated.
