For most of us it is a challenge to transition from one arena of physical activity to another. Add water sports to that, then the exercise of breath holding (apnea) to the mix and you have a challenge in front of you. The cool thing about being young and experimenting is the inherent enthusiasm and desire to meet a new challenge.
Introducing new Apnea exercises to the Titans, a local swim team from Zihuatanejo Mexico, has been met with total energy and effort by the members. The Titans are incredibly fit, dedicated to a rigorous weekly schedule in the pool equaling thousands of meters a week swam, and excited about learning new skills.
Relaxation and mindfulness, a key to our upcoming success at the Campeonato Nacional Guerrero 2024, for the apnea components of the event will be different from competitive swimming. A competitive swimmer who is dipping their feet into apnea will inherently want to race. Racing includes other competitors, as well as racing their own desire to breathe. Perhaps the most important step a new practitioner of apnea can take is when they not only understand the theoretical aspect of relaxation and oxygen conservation but when they actually begin to utilize this important technique in practice.
